The Shenyang J-11 (another designation: Jian J-11) is a modern Chinese air superiority fighter. The drive is provided by two Saturn-Lulka AL-31F or WS-10A turbofan engines. The first flight of this machine took place in 1998. Serial production started the same year and it is estimated that by the beginning of 2014, more than 250 machines of this type had been produced. The deck armament in the J-11A version consists of a single 30mm GSh-30-1 cannon.
The Shenyang J-11 is in fact a license version of the Sukhoi Su-27SK. The original license agreement, worth approximately USD 2.5 billion, assumed the production of 200 airplanes in the PRC from kits and components supplied by the Russian side. However, probably after 100 copies were produced, the Chinese side has already started completely independent production. The units already produced entirely by Chinese industry probably have modified avionics, especially new radars, and perhaps the share of composite materials in the airframe structure has increased as well. During serial production, several development versions of the Shenyang J-11 were created, for example: J-11A (basic production version, made of Russian components), J-11B (version completely produced by the Chinese industry with modified avionics), J-11BS ( two-seater) or the J-11BH (a fighter version adapted to operate with aircraft carriers). Currently, the only user of Shenyang J-11 aircraft is the Chinese Air Force.
